On The Beach

Navigating the day without a map.
We could go for a long walk way down the beach
and see what the tide brought in.
We might take a stroll along the sunset trail to that spot.
I’ll bring my camera.
Or, if you prefer, a simply aimless meander — out the door
and wherever the fates lead.

I am more an intuitive explorer of the natural world than a skilled technical photographer. Fascinated by colour, for me it is primarily about following the light. Sometimes it is a quick response to a texture or pattern that captures my attention. Sometimes it is a strong graphic composition – finding something interesting in an everyday place. Often it is about the convergence of painterly approaches with digital techniques – discovering a new perspective. At this point I embrace the freedom to pursue several lines of inquiry – from the naturalistic to the abstract – and continue to build small series of images such as you will find on my tumblr blog and my website. Endless possibilities.
